Mapping sciences are those disciplines that deal with acquisition, management
and communication of geospatial information. Vision
Australia will be world leader in the application of mapping sciences to
achieve the nation's social, economic and cultural objectives. The Institute
will be widely recognised as the authoritative source of integrated and
independent advice on the mapping sciences to government, industry and the
community. Mission
The Institute will make a major contribution to the development of the
Australian mapping sciences. Philosophy
The Institute promotes the theory, practices and understanding of all facets of
the mapping sciences through the collegiate strength and expertise of its
members. Objective
To undertake activities that are conducive or incidental to the attainment of
the Mission of the Institute and are consistent with its philosophy. This will
enable the general tenor of the Institute's purpose to be a matter of permanent
record while allowing Council to introduce or delete programs as it considers
appropriate from time to time.
